Restoration of A Trip to the Moon (1902) - Georges Méliès

A Trip to the Moon back in color

The color version of the Georges Méliès' masterpiece, A trip to the Moon (1902), is now visible again, after, 109 years after its first release.

 

Considered as lost, this color version was found in 1993 in Barcelona.

In 2010, a complete restoration was conducted by Groupama Gan Foundation for Cinema and Technicolor Foundation for Cinema Heritage.

Digital tools available today enabled to the fragments of the 13 375 frames of the film in order to restore them, one by one.

The film was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2011 with an original soundtrack by the French band AIR.
